Royals signs Steve Lerud

It is reported that the Royals signed catcher Steve Lerud to a Minor League contract last week. Lerud has been in the Pirates since being taken in the fourth round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft. In six Minor League seasons, he has a .228 average with 42 home runs and 224 RBIs in 519 games.

Last season with Double-A Altoona, Lerud batted .240 with four homers and 26 RBIs in 95 games. He threw out 37 base-stealers with 15 passed balls and six errors. He is the second catcher from outside the organization signed by the Royals. The Royals also have signed catchers Vance Wilson and Cody Clark to Minor League deals. Hope to see him playing on the field in the royals jersey.

Colin Wilson gets his first NHL goal

Colin Wilson, who is the Nashville Predator's first-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft, scored his first NHL goal on Wednesday night in the city where he started in college. Wilson tapped home a loose puck at the second period in the game against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. The goal came in his fifth NHL game.

Wilson had more than a little experience playing at the Garden and was Terriers' top scorer last season when they won the NCAA championship. They also won the Hockey East titles at the Garden. "It was really exciting," said Wilson. "It gave me a lot of memories."

Predators' Wilson will make NHL debut

The Predators hit the ice for morning skate at the Sommet Center for the preparation of tonight's home game against the Edmonton Oliers. After another strong skate, the 2008 first round pick is going to lace up the skates for his first NHL game. After having working through a groin injury in the preseason, the 19-year old is very eager to join his team once again. "I'm excited. I think it will be nice to get back out there on the ice especially for a game," Wilson said after morning skate.

The coaches indicated that Wilson may open the game centering Joel Ward and Ryan Jones, but the combinations may change throughout the game.
